Lowel Gel Frame

The Lowel Gel Frame is an accessory for all Lowel lighting equipment, and will only work with lighting instruments manufactured by Lowel (with the exception of the F&DM Department’s Caselite instruments). These Gel Frames are necessary for mounting correctional lighting gels onto a Lowel lighting instrument — attempting to mount a gel onto a Lowel instrument without the Gel Frame will likely cause damage to both the gel and the instrument.

All F&DM Lowel Lighting Kits will contain at least one Gel Frame — however, additional Gel Frames are available for mounting gels on multiple Lowel instruments, if needed. Production Student may add these Gel Frames to their equipment loan in an on-demand basis, no reservation necessary, and no access restrictions based on course-level.

As Lowel lighting instruments employ a multi-purpose mounting insert for both Tota-Brellas and Gel Frames, instances in which using both are desired would require the umbrella to be mounted using the Lowel Lobo Bracket, whereas the Gel Frame would utilize the mounting insert. It is important to take this particularity into account when planning equipment lists for production.

Access, Instruction, and Support

The Lowel Gel Frame is provided for F&DM production students upon enrollment in one of the F&DM Department's production courses.

Access to the Lowel Gel Frame, like all of the department's A/V production equipment, is mediated through the Equipment Checkout Lab in accordance with course allocation assignments, and granted on an individual basis upon meeting specific criteria.

Any and all problems experienced with the Lowel Gel Frame should be reported to the Equipment Checkout Lab Specialist immediately; do not wait until returning the equipment to notify the Lab Specialist or Lab staff (See: Statement of Policies).
